Sinus (Latin 'bay', 'Meerbusen'; plural Latin Sinūs , plural German Sinusse ) denotes:


Sinus is used as a term for cavities and venous vessels in descriptive anatomy:

  • Carotid sinus , also called carotid sinus or globe, the initial expansion at the origin of the internal carotid artery
  • Sinus cervicalis , a gap-shaped space with a common opening of the throat furrows to the outside
  • Coronary sinus , the enlargement of the great cardiac vein immediately before it joins the right atrium of the heart, see coronary vein sinus
  • Sinus durae matris , large venous blood conductors of the brain
    • Cavernous sinus , an enlarged vein space in the dura mater, belongs to the sinus durae matris
  • Sinus inguinalis , a skin gland located at the base of the udder or scrotum in goats, see inguinal pocket
  • Sinus interdigitalis , a gland above the intermediate jaw gap at various ruminants, see interdigital sachet
  • Paranal sinus , a special form of the anal glands in all predators with the exception of bears, see anal pouch
