The Sicilian winch ( Convolvulus siculus ) is a plant type from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae).
description
The Sicilian Winds is a graceful, annual plant that reaches heights of 10 to 40 centimeters. The leaves are stalked, pointed ovoid and heart-shaped or rounded at the base. The flowers are arranged individually on thin stems and are shorter than the corresponding leaves. The crown is blue, the corolla tube yellow. The crown is 7 to 12 millimeters long and clearly five-lobed.
The flowering period extends from March to May.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22 or 44.
Occurrence
The Sicilian wind occurs in the Mediterranean basin on open rocky areas and wasteland.
Systematics
One can distinguish the following subspecies:
- Convolvulus siculus subsp. elongatus Batt. (Syn .: Convolvulus siculus subsp. Agrestis (Schweinf.) Verdc. ): It occurs in northeastern and eastern tropical Africa, on the Arabian Peninsula, in central India, in the Mediterranean region and on the Canary Islands.
- Convolvulus siculus subsp. siculus : It occurs in Macaronesia, in the Mediterranean area to Iran and on the northern Arabian Peninsula.
