Sjötorp is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Västra Götalands län and the historic province of Västergötland . The place in the municipality of Mariestad is about 20 kilometers north of the city of Mariestad on the banks of the Vänern .
geography
Sjötorp is located at the mouth of the Göta Canal in the Vänern. Three locks lead from the lake to the canal harbor, where the office of the canal company, a shipyard and workshops are located. In another five locks on the outskirts, the canal rises to 20 meters above the water level of Vänern. In the old harbor magazine there is a visitor center and the canal museum, which is open in summer.
The Surö nature reserve is located a few kilometers south of the village .
