history

Millstones began to be cut from the gneiss layer of the Lugnåsberg near Lugnås as early as the 12th century . In the middle of the 19th century, the demand increased so much that the company took on industrial trains. Horizontal corridors several hundred meters long were created in this way. Millstones from Lugnås were u. a. exported to Africa and Turkey . But after the end of the First World War , the hand-cut natural stones were replaced by artificial stones and in 1919 the last millstone was made in Lugnås. A five-kilometer nature trail, which starts from the Klosterängen nature reserve , tells the story of Lugnås. Today the Europastraße 20 and the Kinnekullebanan railway line pass the village.
