Skalariak

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Skalariak is one of the most famous Spanish ska bands.

Band history

The band was founded in 1994 in Pamplona, Navarre by the Skalari brothers Juantxo and Peio. When they had only given a dozen concerts by then, the record label GOR Records noticed them. After a few of their songs had found recording in samplers , the group released their first album "Skalariak" in 1997 .

Two years later (1999) they recorded a second album entitled "Klub Ska". It was very well received and the band went on an extensive tour that took them through Europe and even to Mexico .

In 2001 the band released their third album. It was called “En La Kalle” (en: on the street ), and the band lived up to the title with numerous, even spontaneous, street performances in Basque cities.

Again every two years, the band came up with the album "Radio Ghetto" in 2003. Like the previous albums, the record had a decidedly political claim and addressed social issues from a left-wing perspective. This was followed by a tour through Europe, during which the band u. a. performed at the Swiss Open Air Festivals in St. Gallen and Gurten .

In November 2005 the last album "Luz Rebelde" was released.

Lyrics and music

The Castilian and, to a lesser extent, Basque lyrics offer a peculiar mixture of anarchism and Basque nationalism . The quite clear punk borrowings in the first album "Skalariak" increasingly take a back seat in the later releases.
