Skláře ( German Glaserau ) is a former West Bohemian village and basic settlement unit of the municipality of Mnichov in Okres Domažlice in the Czech Republic .

geography

Skláře is located on the northeast slope of the 877 meter high Starý Herštejn about three kilometers southwest of Mnichov. Between Pivoň and Vranov , a path leads about 500 meters to the southeast, first across meadows, then through a forest to the desolation of the former village of Skláře.

At Skláře, granite and limestone are found in addition to the gneiss that is prevalent everywhere in the Bohemian Forest .

history

Since the area was first settled by Czechs, the Czech names are mostly to be regarded as the original. The place name Skláře is derived from the job title sklář, which is: glassmaker. This name was initially translated into German as glaziers, that is: among the glaziers, from which Glaserau later emerged. It is not clear which is the original name and which is the translation. There have also been cases where the Czech and German names developed in parallel.

Glaserau was first mentioned in writing in 1593. In the tax roll of 1656, i.e. 8 years after the end of the Thirty Years' War , the following are listed for Glaserau: 5 farmers and cattle: 26 teams, 22 cows, 13 young cattle, 6 sheep and 18 pigs. After the Thirty Years' War Glaserau was parish after Schüttwa ( Šitboř ), St. Nikolaus. In 1789 it had 13 house numbers, in 1839 it had 17 houses and 96 inhabitants and in 1919 19 houses and 121 inhabitants. It was parish to Pivoň and schooled and incorporated into Valtířov (Waltersgrün). Today Skláře is run as part of Vranov and is given in the land registry as Skláře u Mnichova with 2.36 km 2 .
