The Sky Tower is an observation and telecommunications tower in Auckland , New Zealand . With a clear height of 328 meters, it is the highest television tower in the southern hemisphere .

description

The construction of the tower began in 1994; the opening took place on March 3, 1997. The tower was built by Fletcher Construction . The Sky Tower has three viewing platforms at a height of 182 meters and 191 meters and another under the open sky at a height of 220 meters. The lowest observation deck has a glass floor like the CN Tower in Toronto . A revolving restaurant and a bar rotate on their own axis in 60 minutes.

View from the Sky Tower

Another attraction is the Skyjump , which is possible from the highest observation platform . It is a special form of base jumping guided by wire rope, in which the jumper is braked by a program-controlled wire rope. For many visitors this is a great attraction, as it allows a base jump to be carried out without any risk. On the other hand, braking with the rope never gives you a free fall speed, which is something that light people in particular often complain about. The tower is illuminated in different colors on special occasions.

Channel

The Sky Tower houses the largest FM radio station in the world, ie the comparatively short antenna has most of the stations. This includes 58 microwave transmitters that are used for broadcasting television programs, Wi-Fi , weather services and other broadcasting systems. A total of 22 radio stations are broadcast from the Sky Tower in the greater Auckland area.
