The Slavíček (German Slabitschken , 535 m) is a striking mountain in the Lusatian Mountains in the Czech Republic .
Origin of the name
The name of the mountain is derived from the Czech name for the nightingale (slavíček = little nightingale). It is said that the name comes from the whistling of the wind in the numerous crevices in the rock, which should be reminiscent of the song of nightingales. The German name Slabitschken is derived from the Czech one.
Location and surroundings
The Slavíček is located in the Bürgstein-Schwoikaer Schweiz (Skály u Sloupu a Svojkova) in the south of the Lusatian Mountains, seven kilometers northeast of Česká Lípa ( Bohemian Leipa ) and five kilometers southeast of Nový Bor ( Haida ). At the foot of the mountain are the places Sloup v Čechách ( Bürgstein ) and Svojkov ( Schwoika ). The Betgraben (Modlivý důl) with the famous rock chapel is interesting for tourists . On the north flank of the mountain is the White Woman (Bílá paní), a 15 meter high, slender basalt rock, which is reminiscent of a woman in its shape.
geology
The 200-meter-long rocky summit ridge of the mountain is formed by a basalt corridor , the horizontal columns of which are clearly visible on the White Woman and several summit rocks. The base of the mountain consists of a very soft sandstone with little binding agent , which has a very high iron content due to the effects of tertiary volcanism . Its red color and numerous iron incrustations are evidence of this.
view
There is no view from the summit because of the high forest cover.
