Sleepy Buildings - A Semi Acoustic Evening is a live album by the Dutch band The Gathering . It was published by Century Media in 2004 .

Creation and publication

At the beginning of 2003 Souvenirs had already appeared on the band's own label Psychonaut Records, but The Gathering were still obliged to publish one more time with Century Media. Instead of a simple compilation , they opted for a semi- acoustic live album with a cross-section of the first six studio albums. Performances for Sleepy Buildings - A Semi Acoustic Evening were recorded on August 21 and 22, 2003 in Nijmegen . The recordings were mixed by Jan Schuurman, Wouter Nagtegaal, René Rutten and Frank Boeijen and mastered by Paul Schuurman.

style

For the live album, pieces from the doom and gothic metal phase as well as from the band's alternative and progressive rock phase were rearranged for acoustic guitar and increased use of piano and keyboard. Anneke van Giersbergen's singing is even more central than usual in these calm and sparingly orchestrated versions. The mood is thoughtful and melancholy.

reception

- Jochen Rindfrey : Baby blue pages

“There was no escape here. Feelings galore, the soundtrack to a movie in your head. "
