Home is the eighth studio album by the Dutch band The Gathering . It was released on April 15, 2006 via Noise Records . Home was the band's last album with longtime singer Anneke van Giersbergen and the first with bassist Marjolein Kooijman.

Emergence

For the recordings, the band chose the producer Attie Bauw , with The Gathering on their album How to Measure a Planet? have worked together. Bauw suggested that the band not record in an ordinary recording studio . In the southeastern Dutch city Maurik the band on a small thrust chapel called "La Divina Commedia" in which the recordings finally took place in the autumn and winter of 2005. The majority of the songs were recorded live. There were only a few overdubs .

The recordings ended tragically. In December 2005, Henk Rutten, the father of the guitarist René and the drummer Hans, died. While Henk Rutten was preparing dinner for the band in the studio kitchen, he suddenly developed severe pain in his abdomen. At the hospital, it was found that his aorta was destroyed. Despite an emergency operation, he could no longer be saved. Henk Rutten was the band's manager for many years . The band dedicated the title song of the album to him.

Further recordings were made in the "FishMarket" studios in Nijmegen and in "Bauwhaus" in Amsterdam . Attie constr took over the mix , while Darius van Helfteren the album in the "Wisseloord" studios in Hilversum mastered has.

The band describes Home as a concept album about the challenges and successes of everyday life. The lyrics come from Anneke van Giersbergen, the music from the entire band. Originally, Home should appear on the band's own label Psychonaut Records. Since the company was still too small and the promotion was too complex, the band licensed the work to Noise Records.

The album received good reviews from the music press. Boris Kaiser from the German magazine Rock Hard compared Home to a film and spoke of a “usual good album”, which he rated with eight out of ten points. According to Petra Schurer from Metal Hammer , Home is "valuable because of its complexity, because it is like life itself: not always easy, but precisely because of that exciting".

Home rose to number 34 in the Dutch album charts and number 58 in the French album charts. Outside of the two countries, the work could not place in the charts.
