Disclosure is the tenth studio album by the Dutch band The Gathering . It was released in 2012 on the band's own label Psychonaut Records.

Creation and publication

In the two years after The West Pole , the first album with the new singer Silje Wergeland, The Gathering toured Europe and South America. In May 2011 the band released a new track on their Bandcamp website, played it live in the summer and also made a music video for it. A new album was finally announced for 2012. Another track was presented on Bandcamp in June 2012 and the album was released in September. It was recorded in various studios with guest musicians Jos van den Dungen ( violin , viola ), Maaike Peterse ( cello ) and Noel Hofman ( trumpet ), mixed by Guido Aalbers at GieSound and mastered by Paul Matthijs Lombert at The Mastering Factory.

style

The Gathering continue their characteristic, melancholic style with influences from alternative rock , art rock and post rock . As on The West Pole, there are some references to earlier albums on Disclosure like Mandylion or How to Measure a Planet? perceptible. Many pieces are calm and the mood is dreamy to gloomy.

reception

As with the previous album, the press reactions to the album were mixed. Eduardo Rivadavia from Allmusic sees the band in an identity crisis and finds Disclosure , which tries to please various fan groups, ultimately confusing. Boris Kaiser considers the album to be “solid”, but “not a highlight”. Michael Edele from laut.de judges that The Gathering “got their ailing ship back on course” and praises, for example, the lightness of the album and Wergeland's singing.
