Slither.io is a massively multiplayer online game (MMO) published by Steve Howse in 2016. It is a browser game that is about controlling a character that looks like a snake. The game can be played in the browser , but has also been released on iOS and Android . The goal of the game is to become the largest snake in the game.

The concept of slither.io is similar to agar.io and the classic computer game Snake . Slither.io became well known not least through corresponding videos from prominent YouTube producers such as PewDiePie or Paluten . The game achieved high positions in the app charts in app stores such as Apple's App Store or the Google Play Store .

Gameplay

Game objective

The aim of the game is to have the longest line on the field . This is achieved by recording points.

High speed mode

In high-speed mode, the speed of your own snake is significantly increased. The mode, which is activated in the browser version with the space bar or the left mouse button, ensures that the snake continuously loses size and the score drops. The points lost in this way appear as a point trail behind the queue. The points lost and thus the value of those who appear is greater, the higher the score of the queue.

The high-speed mode can be used tactically by overtaking other players, cutting their way and being constricted.

Points

Each recorded point is counted and leads to the length and thickness of the game figure. On the one hand, the dots on the playing field grow randomly, on the other hand, they eject the game pieces as a point track in high-speed mode.

Fleeing points can also appear near players; these can only be collected by tracking in high-speed mode, because they move away when a player approaches them.

Depending on the origin of the point, it has a different value and thus a different influence on the score.

origin value
grown accidentally 1-5
crumbled snake 9
High speed mode 1-5
Fleeing 50

Playing

If the head of one snake touches the body of another, that snake will be destroyed. It in turn breaks down into points that can be recorded.

The game is also over when you reach the end of the circular play area. There you will find a red border , if you touch it the game ends. At the end of the game, however, the snake does not break up into points, but simply dissolves.

Offline gameplay

You can play in both online and offline mode. In the offline version, the player competes against an AI .

Similarity to other games

The overall concept of slither.io is compared with the 2015 published agar.io and the classic computer game Snake . The online magazine Boing Boing emphasized the similarity of Slither.io with the game Osmos from 2009. In a review on Spiegel Online , parallels to Achtung, diekur! drawn.
