Slobodan Grubačić (born 1942) is a Serbian German studies scholar , cultural and literary historian and university professor as well as a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Vienna and the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Belgrade .

Life

At the Philological Faculty in Belgrade ( Serbia ) he was a full professor, several times dean and head of the chair for German studies before he retired in April 2011.

He wrote his master's thesis in the field of comparative literary studies with Zdenko Škreb, followed by a doctorate (1972) with Fritz Martini in Stuttgart . He graduated as Dr. phil. with summa cum laude.

Slobodan Grubačić has received several prizes, including the Humboldt Research Prize for Scientific Research (1995).

He is a member of the National Council for Higher Education, the National Committee for the UNESCO Program, the European Cultural Society ( Venice ) and the Serbian Writers' Association. In addition, he is one of the founders of the GiG (Society for Intercultural German Studies) in 1988 and a permanent member of several international institutions and editorial offices.

He participated in the organization of numerous international symposia, led separate sections at world congresses ( Basel 1980, Vienna 2000), chaired the annual conferences of literary theorists ( Karlsruhe 1983, Passau 1984, Berlin 1987) and taught (by invitation) at universities in Poland , Paris , Graz , Greifswald , Berlin and Stuttgart. During the 80s he was a regular reviewer of the magazine “Germanistik”, which is published in Tübingen (1978–1986). He was also a visiting professor in China .

To this day, he is the director of studies in the Department of German Language and Literature at the Philosophical Faculty in Nikšić , Montenegro. At Singidunum University in Belgrade, he also teaches cultural history and theory of intercultural communication.
