History and sights

Slottsskogen - the name means 'castle forest' in Swedish - has developed in the last few decades in a wooded area immediately south of Skokloster Castle into a residential area with single-family houses and leisure facilities (tennis court, swimming pool, boat and bathing jetties on the lake), which are jointly owned by Residents are located. Since 1980, when the place was first designated as a crime scene , the population has more than quadrupled. At some distance further south lies another similar, somewhat smaller residential complex, Söderskogen .

Skokloster Castle from the second half of the 17th century, just under two kilometers from Slottsskogen, is one of the most important baroque castle complexes in Sweden. Not far from the castle is the Skoklosters kyrka , originally from the 13th century and part of a Cistercian nunnery. One kilometer to the northwest are the ruins of the Flasta Church from the 12th century. The places on the Sko Peninsula, the castle and the church belong to the parish Skokloster of Uppsala Abbey.

There are two nature reserves to the west and north-west of the village : Sandhagen's nature reserve and Arnöhuvud's nature reserve .
