Slovak studies

The Slowakistik (also Slovakistik ) deals as an academic sub-discipline of Slavic Studies with the Slovak language and Slovak literature . Furthermore, those aspects of cultural studies that deal in particular with Slovakia can also be assigned to it .

Education

At universities in German-speaking countries, Slovak Studies can mostly be studied in the context of West Slavic Studies, but it is much less present here than the sister disciplines Bohemian Studies or Polish Studies . The Humboldt University of Berlin has a lecturer for the Slovak language and culture, the University of Regensburg offers a language and culture program for students from all faculties under the title “Slovakicum”. Other German universities with a special Slovak offer are the University of Leipzig and the University of Cologne . The University of Vienna offers a teaching degree and a master’s degree in Slovak.

The Comenius University in Bratislava has institutes for Slovak history, Slovak language and Slovak literature and literary studies. Furthermore, with “Studia Academica Slovaca” there is a center for Slovak as a foreign language.
