The building was built between 1881 and 1902. The building was consecrated in 1906 as a meeting building. Such buildings, 42 of which remain in the United States, marked congregations whose settlers were majority members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . In the 1950s, a recreation area was made out of the building so that young people could play basketball. In 1985 the church organization transferred the building to the city. Then the building was used as a youth center until a more modern building was built for it. Today the building serves u. a. for storage of sports equipment. Rumors of an impending demolition surfaced in the early 2010s. Since then, the local history society has been trying to preserve the building.
