The Snake River (English for "snake river") is an 85 km long tributary of Bristol Bay in southwest Alaska .
The Snake River forms the outflow of Lake Nunavaugaluk . It flows initially in a south-easterly direction, later in a predominantly south-westerly direction, with a strongly meandering behavior with numerous river loops and oxbow lakes. 15 km above the mouth, the Weary River meets the Snake River on the right. This finally flows into Nushagak Bay 25 km southwest of Dillingham . The Igushik River flows further west and the Nushagak River further east into the bay. The river system is used for spawning by a smaller population of sockeye salmon ( Oncorhynchus nerka ) in summer . The mean discharge at the outflow from Lake Nunavaugaluk is 15.4 m³ / s. The highest runoffs occur in May and June during the snowmelt.
