Sobrosa is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) Paredes . It has 2641 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

history

The Romans called the place Suberosus , derived from Suber or Suberis , based on the numerous cork oaks here . The first official documents mention the place as Soverosa in the 12th century. 1273 awarded King D. Afonso III. the place first city rights, which King D. Manuel I renewed in 1519.

Sobrosa experienced some boom in the course of the 18th century after a number of wealthy families settled here. It emerged mansions and other buildings. The place became the seat of its own circle. In the course of the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 , the district was dissolved again in 1836 and Paredes was incorporated. In the second half of the 19th century, industrial development began in the community with the settlement of textile manufacturers and wood processing companies, especially the furniture industry.
