The Social Democrats ( Irish Daonlathaigh Shóisialta ; literally Social Democrats ) are a social democratic party in Ireland .

history

The party was founded on July 15, 2015 by Stephen Donnelly , Catherine Murphy and Róisín Shortall , three independent members of the Irish House of Commons , Dáil Éireann . On September 5, 2016, Stephen Donnelly resigned as joint chairman and left the party.

Content profile

The party's manifesto for the 2016 parliamentary elections comprised three key areas:

  • Supporting a healthy, inclusive and progressive society.
  • Ensuring a strong, stable and dynamic economy and supporting Irish medium-sized businesses on a par with the multinational sector.
  • Making the government and political processes more transparent, as well as being a contact for the people, instead of reacting to party needs.
