The Solidarity - the left alternative (German "solidarity - the left alternative," Irish Dlúthpháirtíocht ) is a former registered and currently unregistered Irish socialist - anti-capitalist party . The party was founded in 2014, but already canceled its official registration in August 2015 in order to found the new party Anti-Austerity Alliance-People Before Profit, now Solidarity-People Before Profit , together with the People Before Profit (PBP) .
history
Founded in 2014 in the context of the movement against austerity measures such as the introduction of water charges, the AAA competed in local elections and by-elections for the Dáil Éireann that same year . She won two parliamentary seats and 14 seats in local councils. Because of the candidacy of a large number of former elected officials of the Socialist Party , it is sometimes viewed as its preliminary organization. After the AAA merged with the PBP to form the Anti-Austerity Alliance-People Before Profit, both parties presented a joint election program, but they also continued to present individual election calls and thus set individually different accents. In the 2016 elections for Dáil Éireann , the AAA won three seats in constituencies in Dublin and Cork .
In March 2017, the AAA changed its name to Solidarity to reflect the party's various fields of work, such as campaigns against the ban on abortion and for LGBT rights. The joint faction with the PBP in the Dáil was accordingly renamed Solidarity – People Before Profit .
In the elections to Dáil Éireann in 2020 nine candidates established by Solidarity and only Mick Barry was re-elected in his constituency.
