Soerjadi Soedirdja ( alternative spelling: Surjadi Sudirdja ; born October 11, 1938 in Batavia , Dutch East Indies ) is a former Indonesian general and politician who was Governor of Jakarta from 1992 to 1997 and Minister of the Interior between 1999 and 2001.

Life

After attending school, Soerjadi Soedirdja began training as an officer at the Military Academy (Akademi Militer Nasional) and in 1962 joined the Army Infantry (Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Darat) of the Indonesian Armed Forces ABRI (Angkatan Bersenjata Republic of Indonesia) . After a brief assignment in the Army General Staff (Sekolah Staf dan Komandan Angkatan Darat) , he completed military training in France in 1974 and the General Staff Academy in 1979. Among other things, he was Brigadier General (Brigadir Jenderal)between 1986 and 1988 as deputy commander of the 4th Military Regional Command " Diponegoro " in Jawa Tengah . In 1988 he became Major General (Mayor Jenderal) successor to Major General Soegito Commander of the Jaya Regional Military Command in Jakarta (Daerah Militer Jaya / Jayakarta Comando) . He held this post until 1990, whereupon Major General Kentot Harseno succeeded him. He then served as Lieutenant General (Letnan Jenderal) between 1990 and 1992 as Assistant Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces for Social Policy. In 1991 he was a graduate of the National Resilience Institute Lemhannas (Lembaga Ketahanan Nasional) .

On October 6, 1992 Soerjadi Soedirdja Wiyogo Atmodarminto from as governor of Jakarta and held this post until October 6, 1997, when Sutiyoso became his successor.

After President Abdurrahman Wahid took office, he succeeded Syarwan Hamid on October 26, 1999 as Minister of the Interior (Menteri Dalam Negeri) and held this ministerial office until his replacement by Hari Sabarno on August 9, 2001. At the same time, he was the successor to Hasan Basri Durin between October 28, 1999 and his replacement by Hari Sabarno on August 10, 2001, and head of the National Land Agency (Badan Pertanahan Nasional) . In addition, he acted as the successor to Wiranto from February 15, 2000 until his replacement by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on August 23, 2000 as coordinating minister for politics and security (Menteri coordinator bidang politics dan Keamanan) .
