Software 2000 was a German developer and publisher of computer games . He was best known for his Bundesliga manager .

Company history

The company was founded in 1987 in Plön ( Schleswig-Holstein ) by the brothers Andreas and Marc Wardenga. The company later moved to Eutin . Games for the Atari ST , the Amiga , the Commodore 64 , the PlayStation , the Game Boy Color , MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows have been published. The best-known series of games included the Bundesliga Manager series and the Pizza series ( Pizza Connection and Pizza Syndicate ).

With the Bundesliga manager series in particular , the company developed a new and for the time innovative concept and achieved some fame, especially in German-speaking countries. The combination of the genres of sport and business simulation was novel and reached a large number of players at the time. The Bundesliga Manager series is one of the typical calculation-heavy simulations for which the German games industry became famous in the early 1990s.

With the pizza series and the logic game Swing , the company was able to appeal to both male and female players. With a relatively small team, the company usually produced several more complex products at the same time. The company's product range remained strongly related to the German market.

The Bundesliga Manager 97 caused serious damage to the company's image due to the numerous bugs in the sales version. Important employees left, including the Bundesliga manager team (including Andreas Niedermeier, former programmer from Weltenschmiede ) and produced competing football managers such as Kurt: Der Fußballmanager with the Heart-Line developer studio . In its final phase, Software 2000 increasingly produced undemanding commissioned projects, for example games for the TV series Gute Zeiten, Bad Zeiten . Due to falling sales, Software ran into financial difficulties in 2000, other game designers quit and the company could no longer develop new products. At the beginning of 2000, the company's founder Marc Wardenga switched to competitor cdv . In February 2002, the greatly reduced company had to file for bankruptcy.

From 1989 to 1991 Software 2000 also released games under the Magic Soft label .
