The United Democratic Movement “Solidarnost” ( Russian Объединнёное демократическое движение “Солидарность” , German  Solidarity ) is a political movement made up of various organizations and parties in Russia that wants to achieve democratic changes.

history

The "Solidarnost" movement was founded on December 13, 2008 from various social organizations and parties. The aim was to pool the forces of the opposition in Russia and expand their influence in Russia. Members were the opposition groups Committee 2008 , People's Democratic Union , United Civic Front , The Other Russia and National Assembly of the Russian Federation , as well as the parties Union of Right Forces and Yabloko . The song Peremen! Became the “anthem” of the organization . ( Changes! ) By Wiktor Zoi .

The alliance could not achieve the hoped-for successes.

After Garry Kasparov emigrated in 2013 and Boris Nemtsov was murdered in 2015, the movement is insecure and at the same time activated in its efforts to bring about social change.

Content orientation

The movement advocates democratic change in Russia. The name and logo refer to the Polish trade union movement Solidarność , which fought against the communist regime of the People's Republic of Poland in the 1980s .

The main focuses are

  • End of the rule of President Vladimir Putin
  • Democratization of social structures
  • Decrease in the power of the bureaucracy
  • Free and fair elections
  • Release of political prisoners

Specifically, it speaks u. a. against extending the term of office of the Russian President from four to six years.

The movement believes that the most important instrument for change is mass street protests. A further focus is education and information.

The movement works with other parties and organizations such as PARNAS , the Progress Party and Open Russia .

Structures

The movement is led by a Federation Council (Федеральный политсовет). This consists of 27 people. The Federation Council Office (Бюро федерального политсовета) has 11 people for current needs . There is no chairman or speaker. The best-known representative has been Ilya Yashin since 2015. There are regional and local associations.

The highest decision-making body is the movement's congress, which takes place regularly, as well as the meetings of the regional and local associations.
