On the Wuppertal city map from 1930, the place bears the name Am Sültekop . On measuring table sheets , edition Elberfeld , the place bears the name Soltenkopf in the first half of the 20th century .

In 1815/16 there are 32 inhabitants. The place, categorized as Kotten according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district in 1832 , was referred to as am Sültenkopf and at that time had three residential buildings and three agricultural buildings. At that time, 48 residents lived in the village, including one Catholic and 47 Protestant.

A coal path ran past Soltenkopf from Sprockhövel to Elberfeld (here today's Westfalenweg ), on which coal was transported from the mines in the southern Ruhr area to the factories in Wuppertal in the late 18th century and in the first half of the 19th century that time was the industrial heart of the region.

As a result of the regional reform in North Rhine-Westphalia , Dönberg was incorporated into Wuppertal, with the exception of the northern suburbs that remained near Velbert. As a result, Soltenkopf finally lost its border position.
