Sommerliebelei is a French feature film released in 1974.
action
Elizabeth, who is not very happily married, spends the summer with her 15-year-old daughter Cécile in Vittel . 17-year-old Georges works in the kitchen of the hotel where Elizabeth and Cécile stayed and easily drives to Cécile on his bike. Nothing dramatic has happened, but a summer romance begins for Cécile. While the daughter indulges in her fantasies, Elizabeth spends the time at parties arranged by hotel manager Madame Edith.
In the mornings, Elizabeth lies at the swimming pool and meets the playboy Giovanni there. The married woman begins a passionate love affair with Giovanni, while her daughter makes her first shy love experiences with Georges. Both spend a comparable summer and the pubescent daughter bonds more closely to her mother again. Together they share their experiences and secrets. But summer is coming to an end soon. Giovanni leaves suddenly and Cécile also announces to Georges that she will be leaving soon. But mother and daughter now share memories that they will take home with them.
Reviews
The lexicon of international films found: "An attempt, drowning in pseudo-poetry and exquisite melancholy, to describe the instability of feelings and the vacation as a liberating state of emergency."
