Fossli took part in junior races until 2012. From 2012 to 2015 he mainly competed in the Scandinavian Cup . At the Junior World Championships 2011 in Otepää , he won silver in the sprint. His first World Cup race was in Drammen in February 2011 , which he finished in the sprint with 25th place and thus won his first World Cup points. At the Junior World Championships in Erzurum in 2012 , he won bronze twice. In March 2012 he achieved his first top ten placement in the World Cup with ninth place in the sprint in Drammen. In the 2013/14 season , he finished ninth and seventh in the World Cup sprint races in Lahti and Drammen. In February 2014, he won his first Scandinavian Cup victory in the Meråker sprint . At the start of the 2014/15 season in Ruka , he achieved his first World Cup podium with third place in the sprint. He came in the points in all seven participating races and five times in the top ten. At the U23 World Championships 2015 in Almaty , he won gold in the sprint. He finished the season in fifth place in the sprint classification and third in the U23 classification. In March 2015 he won the classic Helterennet over 42 km in Rauland . At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, he won his first World Cup victory in the sprint stage at the Nordic Opening in Ruka , which he ended prematurely. In the further course of the season he finished in the top ten four times in the World Cup, including third place in the sprint in Davos . He finished the season in eighth place in the Sprint World Cup and second in the U23 classification. In the following season he started three times in the individual World Cup. He came twice in the top ten, including second place in the sprint in Pyeongchang and finally reached 40th place in the overall World Cup and 15th place in the Sprint World Cup.
After finishing 72nd in the Lillehammer Triple at the beginning of the 2018/19 season, Fossli achieved four top ten placements, 35th place in the overall World Cup and tenth place in the Sprint World Cup.
