Song Kang-ho ( sʰoːŋ ɡaŋho ; born January 17, 1967 in Gimhae ) is a South Korean actor .

Life

He never took real acting classes, but played in a theater group at his Gimhae High School. He trained in the influential theater company of Kee Kuk-seo . In his first role he was just an extra, but now he's big in business , mainly because of his involvement in films by Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon-ho . In 2013 he won the Daejong Film Award for Best Actor for his role in The Face Reader .

At the Locarno Festival 2019, Song is the first personality in Asian film to be honored with the Excellence Award . The Locarno Film Festival writes that his collaboration with Bong Joon-ho, Hong Sang-soo, Kim Jee-woon and Park Chan-wook “make him one of the most celebrated and sought-after actors in South Korea and internationally”.

He is married and has a son and a daughter. His son is the soccer player Song Jun-pyoung , who is currently under contract with Suwon Samsung Bluewings .
