Sonny Burns
Sonny Burns (born September 19, 1930 in Nacogdoches , Texas , † October 21, 1992 ) is an American country and rockabilly singer. He was close friends with George Jones through early appearances .
Career
Sonny Burns started his career in Eddie Noack's band before moving to Galveston . Even then he was a member of the KNUZ Houston Hometown Jamboree , a radio show that was broadcast live every Saturday evening. During one of these shows, he married in front of an audience on May 22, 1954 in the City Auditorium. However, the marriage did not last long. In the same year he met the young George Jones at a friend's house. Jones had just been discharged from the army and was now trying his hand at music. The two singers quickly became friends and performed together in small clubs and bars. That same year, the hard-drinking Burns got a request from Starday Records to record records. He and Jones recorded his first two titles, Heartbroken Me and Tell Her , which sold well.
Burns then made a few more records, this time solo. Real Cool Cat with Hal Harris on guitar became his most famous title. Although he only released a few more records with Starday and played guitar on a recording with Sonny Fisher , label owner Pappy Dailey Burns announced, however, because Jones had far more success and would later become one of the most successful country musicians ever. Burns was not so lucky, however, continued failure troubled him and he began to drink alcohol excessively . Nevertheless, he got a record deal with United Artists again in the 1960s , but it was not successful.
Today Sonny Burns lives in his hometown of Nacogdoches , Texas.
