Minnie Soo Wai Yam (born April 13, 1998 in Hong Kong ) is a table tennis player from Hong Kong. As part of the Hong Kong team, she won the bronze medal with the team at the 2018 World Cup .

Career

Soo made her first international appearances in 2009 at various youth tournaments, in 2011 she took part for the first time in the World and Asian Championships in the youth field, where - as in 2012, 2013 and 2014 - she reached the semi-finals with the team. In the adult category, the Harmony China Open 2013 was her first tournament, and in April of this year she made it into the top 200 of the world rankings for the first time . In 2015 she reached the quarter-finals in the youth world championships in singles and doubles, in mixed with Ho Kwan Kit she won bronze after a 3: 4 semi-final defeat against Wang Chuqin / Chen Xingtong . In October it also made it into the top 100 for the first time. In doubles with Mak Tze Wing , she won gold at the Asian Youth Championship in 2016, where she also reached the singles semi-finals, and took bronze at the World Youth Championship.

In 2017 she was able to take part in the Asian Championships in Wuxi for the first time , with the team she came in third place, but failed in the individual to Mima Itō . She won medals in the U-21s at several World Tour tournaments and bronze in doubles at the Indian and German Open. Together with Ng Wing Nam , they qualified for the Grand Finals , where they were eliminated in the first round against the later winners Chen Meng / Zhu Yuling . In February 2018, she reached a personal best with number 25 in the world rankings and took bronze with the team at the Team World Cup , and she was also nominated for the team world championship . Hong Kong met defending champions China in the semi-finals . Soo surprisingly won her game against world champion Ding Ning (3-0), but the team lost 1: 3 and won bronze. In doubles with Ng Wing Nam, she was also able to take part in the Grand Finals in 2018 and 2019 , but lost in the first round. At the 2019 World Cup , she reached the round of 16 in singles and doubles.
