The Sophie-Scholl-Gymnasium ( SSG ) is a high school in the Steinburg district ( Schleswig-Holstein ) in Itzehoe .

The grammar school has been named after the resistance fighter against National Socialism , Sophie Scholl , since 1994 . With around 800 students in 36 classes and 60 teachers, it is one of the largest grammar schools with an open all-day school in the Steinburg district. About half of the students come from the outskirts of the city of Itzehoe. The Sophie-Scholl-Gymnasium Itzehoe regularly trains trainee teachers in various fields.

history

In 1969 the SSG was founded as a district high school and a third high school in Itzehoe. Since May 1994 the school has been named Sophie-Scholl-Gymnasium. In 2019 the SSG celebrated the 50th anniversary of the school and the 25th anniversary of the new name in a large ceremony, with Thomas Hartnagel, Sophie Scholl's nephew , visiting the SSG as a guest of honor .

School program

The SSG is one of the few grammar schools in Schleswig-Holstein that offers a physics profile with additional subjects in chemistry and computer science . In addition, as a special feature, the chemistry classes in the middle school take place six hours, i. H. in years 7–9 every two hours. Every year a trained visited school dog the fifth classes art fair communication.

At the beginning of the 2019/2020 school year, the 5th and 6th grades will be taught according to the reintroduced G9 concept .

Career and study orientation

At the SSG, many measures and offers for career and study orientation take place throughout the year. Accordingly, in addition to the usual internships, the SSG also offers visits to trade fairs (e.g. Parentum at SSG) and events at universities, online application training and information events organized by the Employment Agency . In 2019, the SSG and the Lower Elbe-West Coast Enterprise Association (UVUW) created a unique cooperation in Schleswig-Holstein to show students who do not complete a high school diploma, career alternatives. For the eleventh year, the SSG offers not only the usual business internship but also the stage pratique in the twin town of La Couronne (Charente) .

DELF language certificate

The SSG is one of 50 " DELFoption " schools in Schleswig-Holstein. From the 2018/2019 school year, schoolchildren have the opportunity to cover the written part of the DELF scolaire diploma B1 with a school performance certificate in the introductory phase of the upper level. This is at the same time a class test or an equivalent performance certificate and the prerequisite for the acquisition of the official DELF scolaire diploma B1. This enables the students to acquire an internationally recognized and lifelong language diploma in their own school.

Ensembles

The SSG promotes musical education through an orchestra , a smart choir and hard choir, as well as a big band . Every year a Christmas concert and a summer concert of the SSG take place in the St. Laurentii Church in Itzehoe.

Sporting successes

The SSG teaching team was three times national champion in teacher volleyball from 2016 to 2019 . In addition, the pupils are successfully trained every year in youth for the Olympics, for example in tennis for girls (state winner 2018 and seventh in the 2019 national finals). In 2017, the boys became national champions in football . In 2019 the SSG became national fistball champion .

Every year a sponsored run takes place in Lehmwohld as part of the sports festival for the benefit of aid projects. In 2018 this was the children's aid project Arche from Tegelhörn.

Future School.SH

The SSG has received several awards as part of the Zukunftsschule.SH initiative . Excellent projects included a. the pond project, the student talk day, junior student companies and most recently the energy project in 2018. Since 2019, the warm sweater day has been taking place regularly in winter to reduce carbon dioxide emissions . As part of the start of the unit digging in 2019, the SSG planted 50 trees on a plot of land in Drage on the way to the climate-neutral school . This will be continued annually in the future. The resulting school forest will be used as an extracurricular learning location in the future .

Building structure

The SSG has 39 rooms, eleven specialist rooms, a cafeteria , a teacher and student library, various administrative rooms and the pedagogical center. The SSG shares the location and the sports center on Lehmwohld with the community school on Lehmwohld, with which there is a cooperation, particularly with regard to the upper school. Five sports halls on Lehmwohld, the school's own sports field and the swimming center are available as sports facilities in the immediate vicinity.

The SSG has ten Canadians who can be used for class trips and are housed with the Itzehoer Wasser-Wanderern eV.

Digital media

As a school server , IServ has been connecting all members of the SSG communicatively with one another since 2016 . Around 85% of the school had LAN and WLAN coverage in 2019 . Two sets of tablets with 30 devices and 20 notebooks each are available for lessons . There are also two computer rooms with 16 workstations each. Around half of all classrooms and all specialist rooms are equipped with smartboards or interactive projectors and presentation hardware. Since 2015, all parents can be contacted paperless about important information via the info service.

Student exchange and school partnership

There is a student exchange with two partner schools in France ( Sainte-Pazanne and Pornic ) and with a partner school in Poland ( Stettin ). A student exchange in the 8th grade with a Greek school, the 2nd Eleftherio-Kordelio grammar school in Thessaloniki , has been taking place for the first time since December 2019. In addition, the SSG is visited by numerous students each year who take part in an exchange independently or through student exchange programs. Since September 2012 there has been a teacher exchange with the Leguruki Secondary School in Tanzania .
