Unity digging

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Einheitsbuddeln is a tree-planting campaign that was launched on the occasion of the Day of German Unity in 2019. More than 125,000 trees were brought into the earth nationwide. The state of Schleswig-Holstein had called for the action to establish a new tradition for the German national holiday. The action is to be repeated in the coming years. The aim is to plant a tree for every person in Germany on October 3rd every year.

history

The celebrations for the Day of German Unity take place every year in a different federal state . In 2019 the festivities of Schleswig-Holstein were organized.

Since only a small part of the population was naturally able to take part in the citizens' festival in Kiel, a decentralized participation campaign was launched. It should give everyone in Germany the opportunity to take part in the celebrations. This was intended to establish a new tradition for the national holiday at the same time. The tree planting was selected, among other things, because "afforestation is one of the most effective means of combating climate change and one of the decisive keys to achieving the climate goals".

supporter

The action was supported by numerous politicians, celebrities, scientists, associations and companies. Particularly noteworthy are the Fielmann company , which provided 30,000 trees, the Schleswig-Holstein State Forests, which took care of the planting of the donated trees, and the comic artist Ralph Ruthe , who made the common digging process known through several posts on social media. Unity digging 2019

On the website Einheitsbuddeln.de five possibilities were described to participate in the campaign:

  • Plant a tree on your own property
  • Organize a planting party (public or non-public) that others can join
  • Attend a public planting party
  • Donate a tree
  • Make the campaign known by ordering and distributing posters, flyers and stickers

The website also had a card in which private planting promises and planting parties could be entered. In total, over 125,000 trees were planted in the first campaign. 35,000 trees were planted privately or during planting campaigns. 60,000 trees were donated to betterplace.org - this corresponds to a donation volume of 300,000 euros. Another 30,000 trees were made available by Fielmann.
