Sophie Bauer

Sophie Bauer (born June 9, 1939 in Hemmerberg, Kohlschwarz municipality ) is an Austrian trade union functionary in peace and a former politician ( SPÖ ). Bauer was a member of the Austrian National Council from 1991 to 2002 .

education and profession

Bauer attended eight-year elementary school from 1945 to 1953 and then attended a home economics school from 1953 to 1954. From 1953 she was a worker in the company Koflach-Sport, later a worker in the company Pomberger (upper part production) and was employed by the company Juniorwerk (bicycle factory). From 1975 she worked again at the Koflach-Sport company and was released from work as chair of the works council in 1984.

As part of her work as a trade union official, Bauer completed a trade union school and a Chamber of Labor course at the Otto Möbes School of Economics.

politics

From 1982, Bauer was deputy chairwoman of the SPÖ Maria Lankowitz and was elected to the regional women's executive committee of the SPÖ Styria in 1982. At the same time she became a co-opted member of the state party executive of the SPÖ Styria and district women chairman of the ÖGB in Voitsberg . In 1988 she rose to the position of regional chairwoman of the Styrian Textile-Clothing-Leather Union (TBL) and in 1988 became a member of the Chamber of Labor and Employees for Styria. From 1994 she was chairwoman of the Voitsberg district women's platform, in 1996 she was elected deputy federal chairman of the TBL union, and in 1996 she was elected chairwoman of the federal parliamentary group.

Bauer represented the SPÖ in the National Council from March 1, 1991 to December 19, 2002. As a member of parliament, she particularly campaigned for the expansion of Packer Strasse (B 70). Bauer did not run for the 2002 National Council election .
