The Heilinger bastard whitebeam ( Sorbus heilingensis ) is a clan from the group of bastard whitebeams .

features

The Heilinger bastard whitebeam is a large tree.

The leaves measure 9 to 11 × 7.5 to 8 centimeters and are broadly ovate or, more rarely, elliptical in shape. The underside of the leaf is reddish-yellow tomentose and somewhat bald. They're pretty thin even in the fall. There are 8 to 9 pairs of lateral nerves. There are up to 6 pairs of lobes, of which the lowest 2 to 3 are the most pronounced and have a curved edge. The terminal leaf teeth are only slightly larger than the rest. At the base the blade is rounded and rarely more or less blunt. The leaf stalks are 20 to 25 (rarely up to 30) millimeters long. The calyx dries up by autumn. The fruits measure 12 to 14 × 8 to 10 centimeters and are orange-red, elongated, differently shaped and contain small lenticels heaped at the base .

Occurrence

The Heilinger bastard whitebeam occurs only in a small area northeast of Heilingen (Rudolstadt district, Thuringia). It is mainly to be found in the beech forest ( Fagion ), but also in pure beech forests and even in spruce afforestations.

Systematics

The Heilinger bastard whitebeam was discovered by O. Schwarz and first described by Düll in 1961. The tree is named after the village of Heilingen . In the course of ploidy studies it was shown that the clan is diploid and therefore does not represent a fixed, independent species. Therefore the clan is to be summarized under the unfixed bastard Sorbus  × decipiens .
