Sorin Frunză (born March 29, 1978 in Galați ) is a former Romanian football player . The midfielder played a total of 159 games in League 1 . In the 2008/09 season he won the Romanian championship with Unirea Urziceni .

Career

Sorin Frunză began his career in his hometown Galați with Dunărea Galați , which at the time played in Divizia B (now Liga II ). At the end of 1998 he moved to Cimentul Fieni within the league . The club narrowly missed promotion to Divizia A (now Liga 1 ) at the end of the season . In his second season he was no longer regularly used in Fieni and switched to league rivals Politehnica Timișoara during the winter break of 1999/2000 , but was in danger of relegation there and just managed to stay in class. Then Frunză moved to Jiul Petroșani , who also played in Divizia B. There he made a breakthrough, but also played against relegation in the Divizia C .

In 2002 Frunză moved to the ambitious FC Vaslui in Divizia C. With Vaslui he rose a year later to Divizia B and missed the march in 2004 as runner-up behind Politehnica Iași . Since he was not only a regular player in Vaslui, but also stood out for his accuracy, he moved to Divizia A at Universitatea Craiova . This change was not satisfactory because he found himself with Uni Craiova at the bottom of the table. So he returned to Vaslui after just six months and finally made promotion with his new club in 2005.

Both in the 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons Frunză was rarely used and was finally loaned out to the Liga II at FC Botoșani during the winter break . After his return he became a regular player in the 2007/08 season. This made the top teams aware of him and he moved to Unirea Urziceni in 2008 , where he won his first title with the 2009 championship . In the following season , the runner-up and reaching the cup final followed .

In late August Frunză left Urziceni and has since played for league rivals Rapid Bucharest . There he was able to qualify for the Europa League in the 2010/11 season . He then moved to Oțelul Galați . After a year he joined the second division club CF Brăila . There he ended his active career in the summer of 2014.
