Sorin Frunzăverde (born April 26, 1960 in Bocşa ; † November 3, 2019 in Reşița ) was a Romanian politician ( PD ; PDL ; PNL ).

Sorin Frunzăverde studied metallurgy in Bucharest and was a metallurgical engineer . He completed an economics and military science degree with a Ph.D. on the Romanian Defense University Carol I from.

He began his political career in the PD. He was a member of the Romanian Parliament (2000-2004) and President of the Caraș-Severin County (1996-1997 and 2008-2016). He was environment minister in the government of Victor Ciorbea , tourism minister in the government of Radu Vasile and twice defense minister in the governments of Mugur Isărescu and Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu .

He was part of the first group of Romanian MEPs sent to Brussels in 2007 and was one of the proponents of PD joining the European People's Party .
