The Sot ( Russian Соть ) is a northern tributary of the Gorkier Reservoir , through which the Volga flows.

The Sot rises on the Danilower Heights in the north of the Yaroslavl Oblast . It flows mainly in a southerly direction. It flows about 2 km south of the small town Pretschistoje . The Lunka , the largest tributary , meets the lower Sot on the right. Finally the Sot flows into a northern side bay of the Gorkier reservoir.

The Sot has a length of 144 km. It drains an area of 1460 km². The river is mainly fed by the snowmelt . The mean discharge 59 km above the mouth is 6.5 m³ / s. The river freezes between late October and November and remains ice-covered until April. If the water is strong, rafting can be carried out on the river .

Before the Gorkier reservoir was built, the Sot was a right tributary of the Kostroma .
