Souls of Fire is the name of a reggae - band from the Portuguese city of Porto .
history
The band was formed from a group of reggae friends at the end of 2000 on the beach in Leça da Palmeira . In 2006 they released their debut album Comunicar , produced by Jim Fox in the Lion & Fox USA studios. The single História from the album briefly hit the Portuguese sales charts. Since then they have performed live all over the country, including at major festivals such as the Sudoeste Festival , where they played several times, around 2008, where they u. a. shared the Positive Vibes stage with David Rodigan . They also appeared occasionally on Portuguese television, for example in the public service RTP .
At their numerous concerts, they often played with international reggae interpreters, including Alpha Blondy , The Wailers , The Skatalites , The Gladiators and Gentleman . The band is in constant contact with the Brazilian reggae scene in particular, for example with concerts with Brazilian bands such as Natiruts , or with a remix by Marcelinho da Lua on their album Pontas Soltas . The mastering of that album was carried out by Bo Kondren in the CALYX mastering studio in Berlin.
style
Their music is primarily influenced by roots reggae , with some clear influences from ska , but also occasional dancehall - and other influences. According to the band, it is important to have authentic music that is independent of trends, as well as honest and meaningful communication in texts and appearance. So they called their first album Comunicar (German: Communicate), and their second work was called Subentender (German: To understand oneself). In the texts they often express social criticism ( e.g. considerations critical of capitalism ) and deal with topics of human coexistence, joie de vivre, etc. a.
