Sound Affects is the fifth studio album by the British rock band The Jam . It was released on November 20, 1980 on the Polydor label . In particular, the singles Start! and That's Entertaiment were able to achieve success.
The album
The album was recorded between June 15 and October 22, 1980. Most of the songs were composed by Paul Weller . Only the song Music for the last Couple was written by all three band members Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler. The lyrics deal with love, the life of the working class and modern affairs, although they are sometimes quite sarcastic. Acoustic sounds can be heard in several songs like That's Entertaiment , in songs like Start! musical role models like the Beatles can be heard.
The style of music can be described as punk rock and mod revival .
reception
The album reached number 2 on the UK charts. The single start! reached number 1 on the charts while That's Entertaiment reached number 21 on the charts.

2010 double CD deluxe edition
Sound Affects was re-released on November 8, 2010 as a double CD Deluxe Edition. CD1 contains the original album, CD2 contains demos, B-sides and alternative versions of pieces.
