South Dakota State University
The South Dakota State University (also SDSU called) is a public University in Brookings , east of the US state of South Dakota . With about 11,000 students ( 2005 ) it is the largest university in South Dakota.
history
The college was founded in 1881 as Dakota Agriculture College . In 1904 it was renamed the South Dakota State College of Agricultural and Mechanic Arts and did not receive its current name until 1964 .
research
The university has a milk processing factory that makes cheese and ice cream. Here, among other things, cookies and cream ice cream were invented.
Another invention was the Briggs & Stratton engine.
Sports
The SDSU sports teams are known as Jackrabbits . The university is a member of the Summit League . She plays college football in the Missouri Valley Football Conference .
