History and description
The "Spanish Tower" stands on the western edge of the Oberfeld and belongs to the Rosenhöhe Park . It was probably built as an artificial ruin by Georg Moller or one of his employees at the end of the 18th century. Builder, year of construction and origin of the name are unknown.
The "Spanish Tower" is to Grand Duke Ludwig III. and served as a viewing platform and tea house for court society . According to the fire register , the two smaller side wings were added in 1891.
In the 1930s and 1940s, the tower was inhabited by the tree keeper Johannes Koch.
The building in need of renovation stood empty for many decades. In 2020 the BS Kulturstiftung of the Scheinert couple took it over on a lease basis and started the renovation. A sculpture park is to be created in the 5,500 square meter area.
