The Regensburg Spatzen Quartet is a German male vocal quartet .

history

The Regensburg Spatzen Quartet was founded in 1991 by four former Regensburger Domspatzen (hence the name of the ensemble):

  • Oliver Rusin (1st tenor )
  • Christoph Meixner (2nd tenor) (replaced by Michael Weigert in 2001)
  • Lorenz Renner ( baritone )
  • Albert Wimber ( bass )

The extensive repertoire ranges from Gregorian chant to sacred and secular works of classical and romantic vocal polyphony to barbershop songs, pieces in the style of the Comedian Harmonists and modern pop arrangements.

In 1994 the Spatzen Quartet won the Golden Diploma in the special category of chamber choirs at the international Smetana Choir Competition in Litomyšl, Czech Republic, and the Bedřich Smetana Cup as the best male choir.

The Spatzen Quartet has been seen repeatedly on ARD television , ZDF and Bavarian television , including in programs with Gunther Emmerlich , Günter Wewel and Marianne and Michael . In 2004 the Spatzen Quartet was awarded the City of Regensburg's Culture Prize.

Concert tours have not only taken the singers to other European countries, but also four times to the USA , where they performed at the EPCOT Center in Disneyworld and at the German embassy in Washington . In 2017 they represented their hometown at several events in Regensburg's twin town Budavár , a district of Budapest.
