Günter Wewel (born November 29, 1934 in Arnsberg ) is a German opera singer (bass) and presenter .

Günter Wewel, who was born in the Sauerland, initially trained as a civil servant at the Federal Railroad after leaving school . Then he completed an opera training at the Music Academy in Dortmund . After graduating, he sang in over 80 opera productions (including Sarastro in Mozart's Magic Flute and Daland in Wagner's Fliegendem Holländer ) at various opera houses. In the mid-1980s he took part in a complete recording of Tannhäuser and the singer's war on Wartburg in the role of Landgrave Hermann at the Saarland State Theater in Saarbrücken . In 1989 he received the title of chamber singer .

From 1989 to 2007 Günter Wewel acted as the presenter of the musical entertainment program No beautiful land for television. The series (over 150 episodes) produced by Saarländischer Rundfunk ran at irregular intervals. Günter Wewel took his guests to different parts of Europe and presented people, landscapes and customs. The musical part of the program ranged from folklore typical of the country to hits and popular music to light classical music. Wewel himself also regularly contributed songs.

In addition to his opera titles , he has also recorded numerous folk songs and popular titles . He was married to his wife since 1959. Gisela Wewel died on September 20, 2014 at the age of 76.
