Spectra Energy was an American oil and gas company based in Houston . The company operated several networks of oil - natural gas - and NGL - pipelines . Spectra Energy also owned a 50% stake in DCP Midstream . Spectra Energy's US pipelines were listed on the stock exchange as Spectra Energy Partners (SEP), with Spectra Energy holding 78% of the shares.

The company was spun off from Duke Energy in late 2006 . In 2013, Spectra Energy acquired the Express Disk System for $ 1.5 billion from Kinder Morgan Energy Partners and two Canadian pension funds. It was built in 1952 (Wyoming – Illinois) and 1997 (Canada – Wyoming). In 2017 Spectra Energy was merged into Enbridge .
