At the Kiesteich
Eastern part

The Spekte was once a small brook that originated in the wetlands of the Havelland and flowed into the Havel near Spandau .

Together with the Bullengraben , which runs parallel to the south , the Spekte was part of a network of melioration ditches that drained the damp lowlands of the Berlin glacial valley west of the Havel. The ditch silted up due to the drainage and reclamation of the Havelland in the past centuries. The lowering of the groundwater level for the construction of the large settlements in Heerstraße Nord and in Falkenhagener Feld resulted in the loss of the necessary water volumes.

The Spekteniederung is characterized by gravel deposits, which have been excavated since the 1960s for the extraction of building materials. The specter lakes were also created .

Shortly after the construction of the Falkenhagener Feld, which is located north of the Spektegrünzug, the demand for renaturation for the purpose of recreation was made. So the Spekte was exposed again as a stream and the lakes integrated into a green corridor.

The eastern part could be tackled through nature conservation compensation payments from Deutsche Bahn and was completed in 2003. Falkensee and Spandau applied for the State Garden Show 2009 with the spectacle green procession under the title “The green bridge of sympathy”. However, the contract for LaGa went to Oranienburg .

The Georg Ramin settlement is located south of the Spektegrünzuges - named after the former district mayor of Spandau, the garden city of Staaken and the (not officially named) location of Klosterfelde.
