Georg Ramin

Georg Ramin (born October 16, 1899 in Spandau , † November 28, 1957 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1954 to 1957 he was district mayor of the Spandau district of Berlin.

Life

Georg Ramin was born the son of an administrative clerk in Berlin-Spandau. He attended elementary school and completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith . Then worked in various metal companies in Berlin-Spandau . In 1923 he passed the master locksmith examination.

In 1928 Ramin became a member of the SPD , in which he took over functions in the following years. He also joined the German Metalworkers' Association (DMV). He later became a member of the Association of Technical Employees and Officials . Ramin also took on honorary functions in union work. From 1931 to the beginning of 1933, Ramin was a student at the business school of the Social Policy Department of the German University of Politics (DHP). In this way he deepened his knowledge in the field of social and economic policy, labor, economic and constitutional law. Ramin was married since 1929. He had a son.

After the National Socialists came to power , Ramin had to vacate his post as foreman and as a union member of the supervisory board at Siemens , where he had previously worked for years. From July 1933 he ran a grocery store with his wife. From 1937 he worked as a mechanical engineer and clerk for transport systems in the Siemens works in Spandau. Ramin got involved in an illegal group in the resistance against the Nazi regime.

After the end of the Second World War , Ramin was involved in the political and trade union rebuilding in Berlin-Spandau . In June 1945 he rejoined the newly founded SPD , where he again took on functions. From June 1946, Ramin was chairman of the works council for all Siemens employees in Berlin-Spandau. As an employee representative, he was also a member of the company's supervisory board.

In 1948 Georg Ramin was elected to the District Assembly of Spandau. A year later he became district councilor for social affairs and work, and from 1949 to 1951 he was also responsible for the work department. On January 13, 1954, the district council elected him district mayor of the Spandau district. He held this office until his death.

Honors

A residential area created by a non-profit housing company in Spandau during his tenure bears the name Georg-Ramin-Siedlung .

Ramin was buried in the mayor's grove at the In den Kisseln cemetery. His grave was dedicated to the city of Berlin in 1958 as a grave of honor .
