Spencer Island is a small island in the Marshall Archipelago off the Saunders coast of Marie Byrd Land in western Antarctica . In the Sulzberger Ice Shelf , it lies 3.4 km off the northeast section of Steventon Island . Gould Island is 350 meters north .

The United States Geological Survey mapped them using the United States Navy's own measurements and aerial photographs from 1959 to 1965. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1970 after Lieutenant Michael P. Spencer of the US Navy Reserve Forces , navigator of an LC 130F during Operation Deep Freeze in 1968.
