The special school part is affiliated with the Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium Erfurt . In Thuringia there are two other such special school sections. These are affiliated to the Goetheschule Ilmenau and the Carl-Zeiss-Gymnasium Jena .

Pupils can attend the school part from the 9th to the 12th grade, i.e. up to the Abitur .

admission

A successfully completed admission procedure is a prerequisite for attending the special school part. This consists of an application, a written examination in the areas of mathematics , physics / biology and German and an oral examination, which is a mixture of a personal interview and technical questions. If the written exam is particularly good, an oral exam can be dispensed with.

Every year 40 students are admitted to grade 9. Two classes with 20 students each are formed.

specialization

A specialization is aimed for in the subjects of mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry and computer science . As a student, you have a higher number of hours per week in these subjects than in most other grammar schools. To this end, the weekly hours in other subjects are reduced or subjects even omitted prematurely, e.g. B. in grades 9 and 10 one is taught either music or art . Furthermore, emphasis is placed on rhetorical training.

In the special school part, the mixing of the teaching content from grades 11/12 with the content from grades 9/10 is a special feature, which is intended to improve the understanding of processes and operations.

mathematics

Mathematics is taught in the special school part from grades 9 to 12 with five hours per week each. From grade 10 onwards, there is a differentiation according to performance, so that there are three smaller lesson groups per year.

Computer science

Computer science is taught from grade 9 with three hours per week each. Tenth grade students have four hours of computer science per week. From grade 11 onwards, you can choose between a course with three or four hours per week. Two computer cabinets with between 11 and 12 computers are available for students to work throughout the day between 7:40 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Another is only available during class.

languages

English , French , Russian , Spanish and Latin are available as foreign languages from grade 9 onwards. The Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English can be achieved with an additional lesson from the 2nd semester in grade 10. From grade 11 onwards, English can be taken with a higher level of difficulty.

Optional compulsory instruction

The optional compulsory lessons take two hours per week in grades 9 and 10. In contrast to the head office, where three hours a week are provided for elective lessons, there are no grades in the subject. In grade 9, you can choose between mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry and computer science. In the respective subject, the students deal with topics that interest them themselves and that may go beyond the content of the curriculum. There is also preparation for upcoming competitions. In grade 10, the optional compulsory mathematics lessons are no longer available.

Performance center

The high performance center represents a learning group that deepens the teaching of the subject individually. About two to three students and a teacher form a performance center. The top performers of the year in this subject belong to these centers of excellence. Competence centers are offered in the same subjects as the optional, compulsory teaching units and are available to students from the second half of the ninth grade. An exception to this is the mathematics performance center, which can usually only be used in class 9 and in which students can be admitted at the beginning of class 9. At the beginning of a performance center, the course content is determined and goals are agreed so that the lessons are individual and profound.

Seminar subject

The seminar subject is taught in the special school part from grade 9. Together with the project phases, the pupils should be introduced to scientific work in advance. The training of written expression and reflection on the essentials is particularly important, as the project work is limited to a certain number of pages.

Regional center for the promotion of talent

The special school part of the Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium provides a regional center for the promotion of talent for pupils in grades 5/6 and 7/8. This awaits with working groups in the fields of mathematics ("Na logisch!"), Physics ("Experience physics"), geography / biology ("Natural phenomena", only in 5/6) and computer science ("Robot Karol" in 5/6, " Computer Club "in 7 and 8). Participants in these working groups or in the correspondence circles offered in the areas of human-nature-technology (5/6), mathematics (6–8), physics (7/8), chemistry (7/8) and computer science (7) are Summer resp. Winter camp and invited to Mathematics Day.

successes

The special school part can regularly record competition successes at national as well as international level. These include numerous first places in " Jugend forscht " and the state, federal and international Olympiads of mathematics , physics , biology and chemistry . There have also been successes in the International Junior Science Olympiad as well as the team and national competitions in the natural sciences.

Boarding school

The special school part has a boarding school . Students who live outside the city of Erfurt can live here during the weekdays. The boarding school is supported by the state of Thuringia, so the costs for accommodation are relatively low. In order to accommodate students accommodated in the boarding school and to provide time for departure, there are no more classes for all students every Friday from 1.30 p.m. You then have no later than 4:00 p.m. to start your way home. The arrival for the next school week takes place on the Sunday before from 18:00.

Student Research Center

There is also a student research center in the special school section . This can be used by students from all over the region to e.g. B. to implement their projects for "Jugend forscht". These projects are supervised by teachers from the special school part as well as by external supervisors.
