Spiritus Dei is the debut album of the German-speaking singing group Die Priester .
Origin and production
The priests emerged as a project to combine modern pop music - sung by priests - with classical music, and go back to Abbot Primate Notker Wolf and the Cistercian monk Karl Wallner from Heiligenkreuz Abbey . When, after a long search with Father Vianney Meister, Abbot Rhabanus Petri and the Vienna diocesan priest Andreas Schätzle, the suitable candidates were found, the production of the album began. This took place in June 2011 in the Weryton Studios near Munich . The new German texts and text additions come from Father Vianney Meister, who was supported in the musical composition by Dieter Falk . Falk was also involved as an arranger, composer & co-producer of several titles.
In addition to the CD, a deluxe edition consisting of a CD and a DVD was also released. This contains two bonus songs as well as the music video of the song Spiritus Dei and a 14-minute documentary about the creation of the album.
Songs
Except for Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen , the lyrics are in Latin and German. Musically, the album is based on the 2010 album of the same name by Les Prêtres . The songs Spiritus Dei and Glorificamus te are borrowed from him, but have German equivalents instead of French text additions.
Aid project
The album Spiritus Dei, like its counterpart of the same name from Les Prêtres, supports an aid project with its proceeds. 50 cents of each album will be used to build a children's village and a school near Mazizi near Bagamoyo , Tanzania . The new building will replace a meager orphanage in Dar es Salaam , in which around 80 children currently live, and will offer a new home to around 170 children from different backgrounds. The previous orphanage will be converted into a rescue center.
The land required for the construction of the children's village will be provided free of charge by the village of Mazizi, as the school and health center will also be open to the children of the surrounding villages. For the later financing of the children's village they will later pay a small school fee.
