Spiros John Latsis ( Greek Σπύρος Λάτσης Spyros Latsis ; * 1946 in Athens ) is a Greek bank manager and entrepreneur . He is considered the richest man in Greece and one of the biggest beneficiaries of the euro rescue package for the Greek banking system.

Via the Luxembourg-based EFG Group, the Latsis family has a 49 percent stake in the Swiss EFG International AG and 44 percent in the Greek Eurobank EFG . The Latsis family also owns significant shares in the Greek oil company Hellenic Petroleum and in the Greek real estate company Lamda Development, as well as other companies such as the Swiss airline PrivatAir .

This makes the Latsis family one of the ten richest families in Switzerland. In 2013 it became known that Spiros Latsis had moved from Geneva to Monaco .

Since 2008, Latsis has dropped from 68th place on Forbes' list with an estimated $ 11 billion to last place 219 ($ 4.8 billion). The causes include the Greek financial crisis and the shipping crisis since 2008 .

Affairs

In 2004, the then EU Commission President José Manuel Barroso and his family spent a week of free vacation on Latsis' luxury yacht Alexander . When stricter environmental regulations for Greek ships were prevented after the yacht holidays in Brussels, this led to a motion of no confidence in the EU Parliament.
