The Regina Maris is a former cruise ship of the Lübeck- based shipping company Lübeck Line , which entered service in 1966. The ship was sold in 1976, but was rebuilt from 1980 to 1982 again under the old name for the Peter Deilmann shipping company . The Regina Maris was important as the first cruise ship built in Germany after 1939 .

In 1985 the ship was converted into a mega yacht and has been sailing as Alexander ever since .

Cruise ship

The Regina Maris was built at Flender-Werke in Lübeck and launched on December 14, 1965. On May 12, 1966, the ship was delivered to the Lübeck Line. It remained in service for ten years, but then turned out to be too small to remain competitive.

In 1976 the ship was sold and was in Bermuda , Bahamas and Canada in the following years . In Mercator One renamed, however, there were never really going.

In 1979 the German shipping company Deilmann bought the ship. After the passenger facilities at Nobiskrug were converted , the ship was renamed Regina Maris again . In the RoRo procedure , 22 cars could be taken on board. Deilmann offered worldwide cruises. The ship was then registered in Singapore . In 1982 there was a fire on board, details are not known. In the same year launched the time of the cruise was over.

Private yacht Alexander

In 1983 the ship was sold to Greece . After a further lay-in period, it was converted into a yacht at Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven in 1985 and classified accordingly. The stability was improved by converting the hull. It served the Latsis family as a private yacht for twenty years.

In 1992 the Alexander received a new, curved chimney cap. In 1998 another renovation took place at Hellenic Shipyards . Today the ship has 14 double suites and 12 cabins for up to 80 passengers who are looked after by a crew of sixty. The equipment with on-board cinema, swimming pool, whirlpools and helipad is extensive.

The Latsis family repeatedly invited personalities to cruise, including Prince Charles and Lady Diana. In 2004, the then EU Commission President José Manuel Barroso spent a week's vacation on the Alexander with his family . When stricter environmental regulations for Greek ships were later prevented in Brussels, this led to a motion of no confidence in the EU Parliament.

The Alexander was registered in Malta in 2005 and has been available for charter ever since.
